We are experimenting with a new format and time for dharma school. It will be concurrent with our adult.  Sunday morning activities. Children can sit with the adults for ten minutes, then adjourn upstairs for a talk, activity and snack. The kids who feel they are old enough can sit with the adults and listen to dharma talk. At 10:30, kids can join the sangha for work and tea with the adults, or they can go on to other things.

A parent will do the dharma teaching and Nadine will help with the activity, using all her skills as a singer, songwriter, actress, and teacher of young children. All kids are welcome, no matter how old they are.

What is Dharma School?

Dharma school is a time for kids to learn the Buddha’s teaching and have fun. We begin with ten minutes of zazen, kid-style, with squirming where kids can move as long as they don’t make noise or bother others. Then there’s twenty minutes of dharma – usually a story with lots of room for questions and comments. Another twenty minutes is taken up with an activity – a craft, game, or other fun thing – and that’s followed by a snack and juice. In summer, the kids often explore the gardens during snack time.

Parents are most welcome, though kids can be dropped off and picked up. Kids range in age from four to eleven at the moment and we structure the instruction and activity so that it offers something for all ages Zuiko does the dharma teaching and Nadine oversees the activity, using all her skills as a retired art teacher.

All kids are welcome, no matter how old they are.
